Author Interview

1. What inspired you to want to become a writer?
I never really thought about being a writer until it was required for a job. I found that people really enjoyed my writing –especially my dry sense of humor- and I kept on. The White River Killer is my first novel, but I have published a biography before this.

2. Tell us your most rewarding experience since being published.
I always love the reviews I get from people I don’t know. It is very validating to get praise from outside your circle of family and friends. Clarion Foreword just gave my book a great review and I was on Cloud Nine for a week!

3. If you could have a signed copy of any novel what would it be and why?
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. It’s such a great story, so modern in its telling. It’s an American classic.

4. If you could have any superpower what would you choose?
Superwriting! Five books a day. But apparently James Patterson beat me in the race for that power.

5. Please tell us in one sentence only, why we should read your book.
It’s a great mystery with liberal uses of humor set in a realistic rural, southern setting in the United States.

6. Any other books in the works? Goals for future projects?
Yes, I’ve got a young adult time-traveling book in the works.

7. Do you write as you go or do you have the book planned before you start the first draft?
I try to visualize the whole story from start to finish. Once I see how it will unfold I begin writing.

8. What movie and/or book are you looking forward to this year?
Well, I have a teenage daughter who can’t drive yet. I typically see what she wants to see – a great deal of young, greek heros in modern day and other fantasies targeting her age group.

9. If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be?
With enough money –Paris. Currently, I live in my imagination:)

10. Can you see yourself in any of your characters?
I’m pretty good with dialogue and I find that the main character – John Riley Hubbard speaks in my voice.
